Upper Barrakka Gardens:These gardens occupy the elevated space on the ramparts of St. Peter and St Paul Bastion. St.John's Co-Cathedral: This splendid church was built between 1573 and 1577 during the reign of Gran Master Jean de la Cassiere. A baroque work of art in its architecture and sculptures, this Church boasts some of the most beautiful works of art by Mattia Preti and Caravaggio himself. The Palace Armoury dates from 1763 when Emanuel Pinto de Fonseca was Grand Master. Until 1976 the Armoury occupied a large hall at the rear side of the palace, but in 1976 this was taken over for use by the Maltese grand and beautiful building, it is today the seat of the President and Parliament of the Republic of Malta. Mdina, The Silent City: The old capital of Malta is a typical mediaeval, walled city situated in the centre of the Island. Mdina is the seat of several noble houses, including the islands' oldest titled family - created barons in 1350. The Dingli Cliffs: Dingli Cliffs are an impressive sight, especially if view them from sea level on an island cruise. They are the Island's natural fortress, one bastion the Knights did not have to build to protect themselves. From the cliff tops, one of the most striking views and sheerest drops is just west of Dingli village. Another atmospheric view is over to the uninhabited isle of Fifla. Dingli Cliffs seem to exude a mysterious charm especially late evening on calm summer days when the sunsets here can be dramatic. Following recent restoration works, this historic building is now used as a Government Guest Palace. San Anton Gardens: Probably the best known of the Islands’ gardens, San Anton gardens was laid out by Grand Master Antoine de Paule as grounds to his summer residence, San Anton Palace. From 1802 until 1964, San Anton Palace was the official residence of the British Governor, after which it remained a state building and is now the residence of the Maltese President. The garden is a botanical delight with mature trees, old stone urns, fountains, ponds and formal flower beds. The garden is formal with rustic touches and holds a wide variety of plants and flowers, such as Jacaranda trees, Norfolk Pines, Bougainvillea and roses. Nowadays, the garden is the Annual Horticultural Show venue and during summer, the spacious central court becomes an open-air theatre for drama and musical performances.
